Tricks for keeping the house cool. During summer period
Adapted from Consumer Guide to Home Energy Savingsby Alex Wilson, Jennifer Thorne, and John Morrill.

1. Reduce the cooling load by employing cost-effective conservation measures. Provide effective shade for east and west windows. When possible, delay heat-generating activities such as dishwashing until evening on hot days.

2. Over most of the cooling season, keep the house closed tight during the day. Don’t let in unwanted heat and humidity. Ventilate at night either naturally or with fans.

3. You can help get rid of unwanted heat through ventilation if the temperature of the incoming air is 77 F or lower. (This strategy works most effectively at night and on cooler days.) Window fans for ventilation are a good option if used properly. They should be located on the downwind side of the house facing out. A window should be open in each room. Interior doors must remain open to allow air flow.

4. Use ceiling fans to increase comfort levels at higher thermostat settings. The standard human comfort range for light clothing in the summer is between 72 F and 78 F. To extend the comfort range to 82 F, you need a breeze of about 2.5 ft/sec or 1.7 mph. A sow-turning ceiling-mounted paddle fan can easily provide this air flow.

5. In hot climates, plant shade trees around the house. Don’t plant trees on the South if you want to benefit from passive solar heating in the winter.

6. If you have an older central air conditioner, consider replacing the outdoor compressor with a modern, high-efficiency unit. Make sure that it is properly matched to the indoor unit.

7 Keep the thermostat set at 78 degrees F or higher if using ceiling fans. Don’t air-condition unused rooms.

8 Turn off your A/C when you leave for more than an hour.

How to save your money when you live at home ?

SWITCH IT OFF AT THE SET

Switching off your television, video, DVD or stereo at the set or mains stops the extra 10-60 per cent of electricity wasted by the standby setting. If ten households do this, we could save one tonne of every year. Of the electricity used by your VCR, 85 per cent is consumed when it is not actually on.

FIT DRAUGHT EXCLUDERS

Fitting insulation tape, brush seals and draught strips to letterboxes, keyholes, doors and windows is highly effective in cutting down those nasty draughts. You can also plug the gaps between floorboards and around skirting boards, helping to keep the heat in and the cold out.

UNPLUG YOUR PHONE CHARGER In the UK,

95 per cent of the energy used by mobile phone chargers is wasted. Only 5 per cent is actually used to charge the phone and the rest is wasted by leaving the charger plugged in. It takes a forest with an area equivalent to 500 football pitches to absorb all the produced by chargers in the UK that are left in the socket.

USING LESS WATER SAVES ELECTRICITY

Saving water saves electricity as water is pumped to your home using electricity. If you fit a water saving device to your toilet, you would save around 11,000 litres of water a year.

The Burden of Climate Change need help from richest nations - 10$ Billion is "good beginning" : UN Top Climate Official said

Mr De Boer, head of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), said the $10bn (£6bn) pledge would be "a good beginning". He insisted the burden of climate change must be shared and that the money would help developing countries.

Many of the world's poorer countries and those who'll feel the effects most keenly of climate change have been calling on the more wealthy nations to make greater financial pledges towards helping them adapt to global warming.

The UN's top climate official has said that the richest nations will have to put $10bn "on the table" during the Copenhagen climate change summit.

This money, will allow developing countries to begin preparing national plans to limit their own emissions, and to adapt to climate change. Mr De Boer was less keen to put an exact figure on the levels of emission cuts the biggest economies should commit to.

Some scientists have called for a 25-40% reduction by 2020 - a proposal he describes as "a good beacon to be working towards".

As well as the hard cash and paper pledge from developed nations, success at Copenhagen will come from one other factor, he revealed.

"If on that piece of paper, China, India, Brazil and other major developing countries have offered national actions, that will significantly take their emissions below business as usual... that for me will be a success."

when people say they are living “OFF THE GRID ” they mean that very simply , their home doesn’t get its electricity from the power lines. Instead, they’re living without electricity, or generating their own.

Many People have lots of reason to live off the grid style because You can avoid from conventional power sources ; producing and using your own clean energy can be a wonderfully empowering, liberating experience, and it sure can be nice to not receive the bills. More over, our quality of life can be as good, or better than the past

Off-grid house is one part of off-grid living . This Homestead House is an off-grid prefab concept made from recycled steel by designer MICHAEL JANTZEN who is an internationally known artist/ designer whose work has been featured in hundreds of articles in books, magazines, and newspapers from around the world. His work has also been presented on various TV and radio programs, and in many galleries. Some of his designs have been exhibited at the National Building Museum, the Canadian Center for Architecture, and at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The house makes use of prefabricated, commercially available steel which makes it both low in cost and extremely modular. In fact, it makes the size and shape of the structure completely customizable - not to mention really tough

And the house is fully recyclable as it can be easily torn down and erected in different location. Within the tough outer steel shell is another structure made of a lighter gauge material. The inner shell is insulated by ground up newspapers and magazines.

The system is completely off-grid with its photovoltaic solar panels and a small wind turbine. Its climate is controlled via passive solar. The arches also collect rainwater which can be directed to above or below ground storage. Above ground storage would also be solar heated.

Planting tree in Peru - One tree can make difference for the world

While the world face with GLOBAL WARMING problem . More Campaign are created by foundation in other country for saving the world such as In Peru that embark on a mission to plant 40,000,000 trees in three months . It amounts to over 500,000 trees planted per day and If this Campaign successes , Carbon is captured about 570,000 metric tons for each year.

In my opinion , Planting tree is good and easy green way that you can act .

When I have a time . I participate in planting some tree activities at the park that near my home . It’s more fun and more advantage for yourself and your world such as you can make new friend in this activity . But People who participate in planting tree activity is so less .In the Future I'd like to see some of the green volunteer actions from other community come back into vogue because growing trees is an incredibly productive and worthwhile conservation.

But If you can’t growing plant at the park , You can buy yourself some tree seeds and plant them in your own area with proper placement . this action has more advantage for your house . For example , Plant deciduous trees on the south side of your home to shade your roof. This will relieve your overworked air conditioner. In the wintertime the trees will lose their leaves, allowing the sunlight to pummel your house and warm it or Planting evergreen trees on the north side of the house curtails the harshness of those winter winds. Less wind means a warmer home. And because evergreens hold more foliage at their bottoms, they won't block the sun when you need it.

So I think you should plant some tree in somewhere that you have opportunities because of One tree really can make a difference for the world

And I believe that you must do this action in someday because Peru can plant 500,000 per day, why you can do one ?
